Girls Deprived of Liberty
According to a groundbreaking UN Study on Children Deprived of Liberty, between 1.3 and 1.5 million children are deprived of liberty worldwide. Children are locked up and deprived of liberty for a range of reasons: from immigration detention, to trouble with the law, to involvement in armed conflict.
Girls are especially vulnerable to a range of human rights abuses whilst in detention.
Tdh consulted with children around the world who are deprived of liberty for the study. The girls in the following video are in detention and are deprived of liberty:
"Children deprived of liberty remain invisible and forgotten. Every child, even if he or she has committed a crime, has the right to express his or her point of view. And we have a duty to listen to it." - Kristen Hope, in charge of advocacy and research for Tdh.
